Honasan: Marcos better president than Cory

Vice presidential candidate Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan said the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. is the better president than the late Corazon Aquino.

Asked during Unang Hirit’s Hiritan on Monday morning who is the better president between the two, Honasan briefly answered: “Marcos.”

After his Unang Hirit guesting, Honasan clarified to GMA News Online that he was comparing the first six years of the administration of Marcos and Aquino.

“Ang pinag-uusapan ay comparative, first six years ni President Marcos at President Aquino. During Marcos’ time, first five or six years definitely [better]. Malinaw, sundalo ako nun. Wala akong kadudaduda doon sa nag-uutos sa akin,” he said.

“Of course yung pananagutan, mga abuses that will happen later,” he added, referring to the alleged human rights abuses of the Marcos administration during its 20-year rule.

Honasan said the determination of Marcos’ alleged abuses during his presidency should be left to the courts.

“Down the road yun no (abuses) but let that be a function of due process, sa tamang panahon, sa tamang proseso, sa tamang korte,” he said.

Honasan was one of the key players in the EDSA People Power Revolution which led to the downfall of Marcos and catapulted Aquino into the presidency.

He, however, led unsuccessful military coup attempts against Aquino.
